Baby steps.

lifeastheirmom-clothdiapering

So to a full time cloth diapering mommas this is probably a laughable accomplishments. They sigh a little, maybe giggle a little, and do that little indulgent smile as they pat my back. Those mommas who don’t do cloth will be like “Really? But WHY?”

Except for when Mason transfer to our bed at about midnight he has been completely and utterly in cloth since we got home from work Tuesday afternoon. And I’ve been keeping count! In that time we have saved 21 disposable diapers. That’s almost a half a package of size twos. Even before this we didn’t do full all-day cloth on our off days, probably about half of the diaper changes a day were cloth.

I know I mentioned previously that we were using gDiapers, but…
I don’t know what happened. The more I read up on cloth, especially now that I’d gotten my toes wet, I didn’t like them so much. Not to mention after only a month mine had taken some serious beatings getting used so much. The velcro had stopped being so sticky and it caused the tabs to sort of stick out some and he was getting really red painful looking spots where they pushed in to his sides/back. Even when I loosened the tabs enough to make the diaper almost useless. We still use them – mainly just at nap time and when I lay him in his bed from 7:30ish to midnight – I just put them on backwards.

Basically now we just use prefolds 90% of the time. I fold one into thirds and set it in another and use a snappie to hold it all together. It worked for my mom all the years she diapered us (she used cloth as well) and my momma won’t suffer using things that don’t work, so I figured it was good enough for me. And it is. I am loving this. I still want to pick up some covers because with this method we have to either switch to the gDiapers or disposables when we go out of the house, but I am so much happier with this. *knock on wood* We have yet to have a single blowout this way, and with Mason having those start of teething poops that’s a big deal. I change his diaper about every two hours (unless I notice it needs it before then) and he hasn’t ever completely soaked through.

The kids all think he looks adorable. Especially since we tie dyed three that we use as the out layer, and we got a green homemade tie dyed prefitted from a friend. John prefers the just plain white on the outside, but I think that’s mainly just due to his aversion to tie dye. lol

I think we’ve found what make us happy, it’s easy and cheap – especially since we just primarily use the 2 dozen prefolds we have and they only cost like $18 total – and it works.

Mostly Wordless Wednesday

My Parents Day Out class tie dyed shirts yesterday. I had just about 1/2 a bottle of each color leftover so I brought them home to use up instead of tossing the leftover. So we all did shirts too. (Well, the boys did – Bella and I already had in class) Bella and I did some prefolds. And I did a cute halter I have that had a stain on it.

My poor back yard cement area will probably never be the same again.

And after two tie dye sessions I don’t think my poor hands will either.

But I’d say it was worth it.

Oh… and lastly, my black and white for this week.

Sometimes you just gotta laugh.

laughaway-lifeastheirmom

You just gotta laugh because sometimes life just sucks and wants to throw poo on your hair, and then it wants to rub in the poo, and then plop a little more on.

Life can be a real (insert your choice of profanity term here).

Last week was VBS ((and Zach’s birthday)). We find out Monday a bug is going around some of the kids that also go to PDO and the workers. I think “Crap.” As any mom of many will tell you, when you have more than say 2 kids, stomach bugs take for.ever. to leave your house. Yeah… no. Zach didn’t get it. Ryan didn’t get it. Bella didn’t get it. Neither did John or me.

Mason got the stomach bug.
The world can be going to hades, but when you have a sick baby you are trapped in a never ending nightmare of poop vomit-spit up-gushing nastiness and exhaustion. At least Bella had finally learned to puke in the toilet. Mason learned to puke on me.

Lets factor in this crazy-frustrating mood the big boys have been in. Bella’s clinginess and *I think* growing pains attitude and I am going nuts.

Not-kid related life-poo:
John’s has had two incredibly bad pay checks one right after another.
The overstressing and fighting and bickering between us over money.
Oh, and the who knows who is to fault over the whole insurance debacle.

Hi, my name is Trish. Would you like to trade spots with me for a week?
I just want a week to sit, read, scrap, and do absolutely freaking nothing.

To cheer myself I sit here and think snooty stupid things like:

editmyphotos-lifeastheirmom

And I have fun playing with the pictures I took of Bella playing outside yesterday with her umbrella and the sprinkler. (Cause I know how to actually DO those spiffy edits in Photoshop. lol)

They ain’t perfect, but hey I never claimed to be a photographer – just someone who can work Photoshop.

Now mind you, I don’t actually have any beef with Instagram or my friends who use it. ((Well except when they ask me what I app I use on my pictures…. or what app I used to create my scrapbook pages. – For reals. lol)) It’s fun and I’m sure a heck of a lot easier than Photoshop. I’m just perverse and playing in Photoshop makes me happy. Also, when I’m feeling “woe-is-me” I like to listen to crappy happy music, or rap, or musicals, play in Photoshop, and think of random stupid things to laugh about – like my thoughts on Instagram.

They tell you it goes by quickly, but you never believe them when your babies are so small. Well, take my word for it – it goes soooo quickly.

And, as promised, a wrap up of Mason’s Monster Puppy pictures over the past 12 weeks.

When you go to the park to play…

When you go to the park to play….

DSCN7739 copy
the Pudding will first want to go on the playground and swing. While she is swinging she will see a huge ginormous enormous puddle.

DSCN7750 copy
When the Pudding sees a huge ginormous enormous puddle she will want to throw stuff in it. In her quest to find big sticks and rocks to throw in it she will decide she wants to go on a walk.

DSCN7755 copy
As the Pudding is going on the walk down the path she will see several baby frogs crossing the road. This will make her want to look for the mommy and daddy frogs.

DSCN7763 copy
When the Pudding can’t find the mommy and daddy frogs and starts to get upset you distract her by showing her the gross dead squished smelly decomposing snake you found. When you tell her not that no she can not touch it, she will give you a “you’re kidding right?” look.

DSCN7779 copy
When you finally drag the Pudding away from the dead snake (that she did not touch) you will walk some more until you get to an area that is very shady. You will be relieved. She will not.

DSCN7783 copy
Yet after you get out of the shady area and get to the old cemetery she will not be the least bit bothered, and will throw a fit when you inform her that it’s time to go back.

DSCN7795 copy
When you walk all the way back (half a mile) and are able to see the playground again the Pudding will run and skip ahead of you to it with a renewed spurt of energy.

And when you get back to the playground…

The Pudding will want to swing.

lol
I couldn’t help myself. I felt the need to copy the “If you give a…” style.

This week I’ve been busy.

The boys got out of school on May 24th so this was their first week home. Yeah… they haven’t been too bad, but Bella with them is like oh my gosh. She’s driving us all C R A Z Y.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday I was up at the church for 5ish hours working. At least for the summer (hopefully into the fall as well) I’ll be acting as the primary teacher for the 2-3 year olds PDO class. I’ve been spending a ton of time getting the class ready, planning the lessons, and other such stuffs.

I haven’t added any Mason and Monster Puppy pictures recently, but I have been taking them. I’ll do a wrap up with them all at 12 weeks, but here is a preview of this week’s.
